Stop by the town&#8217;s building inspection department and figure out what you need for a permit, and the code requirements. Also contact the local utilities and figure out where their underground conduits are located.  Often the building department will need to know the dimensions of the deck, the materials you will need, and how long it will take to build.  The local building department will be able to revise your plan to meet the building requirements, and inform you about any fees that may be incurred.  Remember that the time to complete is required to include inspections during the building of your deck.Take the Time and Measure Right!.</p>
<p>Once the plans have been drawn up and approved, start by measuring out the foundation of your new deck.   The end shape does not really matter.  At this point, your deck foundation should be square to maintain a stable base.  To accomplish this, the beams and supports should be the same distance from each other, and the joists should be at ninety degrees.  So take your time, measure out the position of the deck corners  carefully, and make sure the proposed deck height is the same for each point.  Once the outside perimeter is  established, follow your detailed plan, and protect the house by providing a ledger.  The ledger provides a stable way for the deck to be attached to your house.Finish Building Out the Framework with Beams, Supports and JoistsFollowing the ledger, the second thing to do is to place the footings and vertical posts as dictated by the deck plan.   Remember, this is providing support for your deck, so make sure to measure everything precisely.  Once this is complete, the third step is to position the horizontal beams, and used the neccessary joists to complete the framework for your deck.  Remember, the deck is required to be able to hold many things, and meet the building code requirements.  </p>

After that, the next thing to do is finalize the surface of the deck by nailing down the deck boards.  Spare a few moments to verify that the boards are straight and level.  Something as simple as a few uneven boards can really spoil the whole deck.   This is the time to add the railings and steps to finalize your deck.The whole process should take a little over two weeks to finish, depending on the size of the deck desired.   The trick is to remember to take your time, measure everything, and follow the approved plan carefully.</p>
